4-week "Seeing Clearly, Living Wisely: An Introduction to Insight Meditation" with Carmen Teo

4-week Seeing Clearly, Living Wisely: An Introduction to Insight Meditation

Insight Meditation (Vipassanā) is a path of cultivating a direct understanding of how our minds and hearts work. Rooted in the Buddha’s teachings and informed by modern psychology, this four-session course introduces the practice of mindfulness, and explore its application to the discovery of insight.

Across the sessions, we will explore how mindfulness emerges from the continuity of awareness, and how insight reveals the three universal characteristics of impermanence, unsatisfactoriness, and not-self—while grounding the practice in kindness and compassion.  Each class will combine guided meditations, short teachings, and opportunities for dialogue and reflection. There will also be instructions on constructing supportive meditation postures such as sitting and walking.

The aim is not only to learn meditation techniques, but also to bring wisdom into daily life—so that in the midst of work, relationships, and challenges, we can respond with greater clarity, less reactivity, and a deeper sense of ease. This course is suitable for both beginners and those wishing to refresh their practice.

Who Can Attend?

This course is open to everyone — beginners and experienced meditators alike. You don’t need to be a Buddhist to join. Vipassana, while rooted in the Buddha’s teachings, is a universal practice of wisdom and awareness. It is taught worldwide to people of all faiths (and none), grounded in direct experience rather than belief.

If you’re ready to explore mindfulness more deeply — beyond stress reduction — and cultivate insight that leads to freedom of the heart and mind, this course offers a welcoming place to begin.

The Instructor: Carmen Teo, a dedicated meditator in the Vipassana tradition for 18 years, mindfulness teacher, Certified Teacher of MBSR, MSC and UCSD CFM’s MBSR Teacher Mentor.
